Here Are Your 2017-18 Vegas Golden Knights

While the Vegas Golden Knights’ roster already leaked out earlier over the course of the afternoon, the NHL Awards gave the league a platform to (very, very gradually and awkwardly) announce the results of the team’s expansion draft. Of course, this roster will likely see some changes pretty quickly. The Knights can’t trade any of these guys until Thursday, and they’ve likely selected at least a few players with the intention of sending them elsewhere for a better return. There aren’t any major surprises here. Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury will be the team’s most recognizable name, while the Blues’ David Perron and the Predators’ James Neal will give the team some goal-scoring experience if they stick around. The rest of the squad is mainly built ou…

The 2014 Heat Were Worse In The Finals Than LeBron's 2007 Cavs Team

At some point around the time Dwyane Wade was impaled, for the second time, on a doddering walkabout turnover in the paint, the wider basketball-viewing world realized that Dwyane Wade has been dead all this time, and was only now being told. But Wade was far from the only Heat carcass to wash up these Finals. Here's how bad it was: Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh combined to post a game score of 18.5 (7.9 and 10.6, respectively). In 2007, when LeBron and the Cavs were swept by the Spurs, Drew Gooden and Boobie Gibson combined for 17.5. This is not flattering company, obviously. If you expand to the teams' top seven non-LeBron rotational players, the '07 Cavs actually pull ahead, with a combined Game Score of 42.2 to the '14 Heat's 36.2. (The average cumulative gam…

2009 World Series, Game One: It Begins

It's time to start the Greatest World Series Matchup Ever Imagined. Unless you hate the Yankees. Or the Phillies. Or Derek Jeter. Or if you're from Cleveland. But everyone else is going to love it. There's no point in previews or predictions at this stage (I think there will be at least four games … and three groin pulls) so just go ahead and open thread your brains out below. Angry rants and trash talk are more than welcome, but anyone who says "an A-bomb from A-Rod!" is automatically banned. Now go get some. [Photo: Getty] * * * * * Barry P. will have some other nonsense for you later. Thank you for your continued support of the Deadspin Dream Factory. …

Nando’s Steal Nike’s Crown For Best World Cup 2010 Advert

As everyone already knows, if there's one thing football players love as much as gangbanging young women and crashing high-powered cars, it's eating Nando's. What might not be as well known is, for as much as they bang on about their Portuguese roots in their official blurb, Nando's is actually a South African brand. Maybe the England squad didn't have to ship over 24 bottles of peri-peri sauce after all. Anyway, the popular chicken restaurant has just released a series of (apparently typically) raunchy telly adverts in SA, aimed at World Cup tourists. Playing on the international media's scaremongering approach to this year's hosts, the boobalicious ad aims to reassure everyone that, despite the Daily Mail's protestations, the world's …

VIDEO: Kevin Durant Chooses Kyrie Irving Over Steph Curry in Personal All-Time Starting Lineup

data-mm-id=”_te63ksztw”>At least Michael Jordan had a bit of an excuse. It's been a tough week for Stephen Curry. His Golden State Warriors have yet to debut during the NBA's opening week festivities, but the talk show circuit has not been kind at all. Earlier this week, the legendary Jordan remarked that Curry was "not a Hall of Famer" in an interview with NBC's Today. While it's possible Jordan was speaking in a literal sense, Kevin Durant didn't do much to help out his former teammate in the news cycle. Speaking with NBA alums Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson on the Knucklehead podcast, hosted by The Players' Tribune, Durant was asked which of his former teammates would make up the perfect starting five. There was one notable omission. KD n…

Adam Gase Apparently Doesn't Care About the Fans Because He's 'Rich as F–k'

data-mm-id=”_65kndelwq”>Coaching in the intense bubble of New York City requires a thick skin and ability to deflect criticism. But Adam Gase's reported coping mechanism will surely rub some Jets fans the wrong way, especially those who invest their hard-earned money in schlepping out to MetLife and forking over a small mortgage for concessions. The New York Daily News reports this morning that Gase has said privately for months that the fans' ire doesn't particularly matter to him because he has a nice juicy bank account to console him. ““I’m rich as f–k” has become Gase’s go-to line since taking over 11 months ago, according to sources. Gase has repeatedly said it to anyone that mentions the avalanche of criticism this year. It has become his defense mechanism.…

The IOC Needs to Postpone the Olympics Until 2021 Already

data-mm-id=”_qr093v2s0″>The International Olympic Committee has set a four-week deadline for deciding whether or not to postpone the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Frankly, I'm not sure why we need more time to decide pushing the games back is the right thing to do. The decision should have been made weeks ago. Here's part of the IOC's statement:””The IOC will, in full coordination and partnership with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Japanese authorities and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, start detailed discussions to complete its assessment of the rapid development of the worldwide health situation and its impact on the Olympic Games, including the scenario of postponement. The IOC is confident that it will have finalised these discussions within the next f…

VIDEO: 11 News Stations Ran the Same Amazon-Scripted Segment

data-mm-id=”_l7u2a9upa”>On Sunday, KOCO weekend anchor Zach Rael tweeted that Amazon's public relations team had emailed him a news story and script to run on-air. Billed as a look behind the scenes of the behemoth's COVID-19 response, the idea was quickly nixed by Rael and, likely, many other stations. Just got an email from Amazon’s PR team with a pre-edited news story and script to run in our shows. They are selling this as giving our viewers an “inside look” at the company’s response to COVID-19. No.Let us go inside a fulfillment centers with our own cameras… pic.twitter.com/7mDk2xmf4O— Zach Rael (@KOCOZach) May 24, 2020Courier's Timothy Burke reports today that at least 11 stations have run the pre-edited package put together by an Amazon spokesperson. An AFC East Coach Doesn't Think Cam Newton Will Start for the Patriots

data-mm-id=”_92m1vh869″>Everyone knows that the New England Patriots made the brilliant choice to commit highway robbery and secure former NFL MVP Cam Newton as their starting quarterback for 2020 in an effort to fight for a playoff spot. Except either Adam Gase, Brian Flores, or Sean McDermott — one of whom texted ESPN's Dianna Russini with a theory that Newton was being brought in as a wild-card in a fullhouse backfield. I spoke over text w/ an AFC East Head Coach on Cam Newton and the Patriots. “I think they are going to keep 3 QBs. Use Cam Newton perhaps as the wild card. I actually don't see him starting Week 1 in the offense…I know one thing for a fact: the #Patriots love Jarrett Stidham"— Dianna Russini (@diannaESPN) July 1, 2020Well, first and foremost, t…

Did Michael Jordan Start a NASCAR Team to Get Back at Brad Daugherty For Not Watching 'The Last Dance?'

data-mm-id=”_vuotl7305″>Michael Jordan is coming to NASCAR. Jordan has teamed up with Jordan Brand's first NASCAR athlete, Denny Hamlin, to start a single car NASCAR Cup Series team. The driver of the car will be Bubba Wallace. The motoviation behind Jordan joining NASCAR? Probably to resume destroying Brad Daugherty's life. Tonight, I’m excited to announce MJ and I are starting a new, single car @NASCAR Cup Series team for 2021. Deciding on a driver was easy – it had to be @BubbaWallace. pic.twitter.com/nIJv0X6ZOX— Denny Hamlin (@dennyhamlin) September 22, 2020Daugherty played eight seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, making four All-Star teams. During his playing days, he wore number 43 because of Richard Petty. The Cavaliers made the playoffs five times during Daught…
